Moustafa Algamal, PhD

INSTRUCTOR IN NEUROLOGY

Moustafa Algamal, PhD, is a neuroscientist and Instructor in Neurology at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School. Supported by a K99/R00 award from the NIA, his research focuses on Alzheimer’s disease while broadening into frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and ALS. In preclinical models, he investigates two major themes: (1) how excitatory–inhibitory circuit imbalance drives memory and motor deficits, and (2) how interactions between the central and peripheral immune systems influence brain pathology and cerebrovascular health. His work integrates multi-photon in vivo imaging, molecular neuroscience,  immunology and behavior to identify novel therapeutic strategies.
